Pedaling
When you pedal a bicycle you are exercising. You use the chemical energy of food stored in your body to activate your leg muscles and push the pedals round and round, which is mechanical energy. Do you get hot when you exercise? You also convert some of the chemical energy into heat energy. How many kcal does your body convert while pedaling? That is not an easy question to answer because it depends on many variables, such as speed, total time, tire type, road conditions, and more. However, if we generalize, we can say a 100 lb person pedaling at 12-14 mph for 30 minutes on a smooth road will convert ~200 kcal of stored chemical energy.
